Many individuals and businesses alike prefer to use a VOIP phone service for their telecommunication needs since they provide a cheaper and more flexible option for aural communications. Although the technology has come a long way and the quality no longer resembles a pair of walkie-talkies running on the dregs of AA battery power, both the quality and reliability of fixed lines is considered much higher. However, there are a few steps you can take to ensure that your VOIP phone service runs as swimmingly as is possible.
You need to ensure that your bandwidth service is off a significant level and is not shared by too many communicative devices. It goes without saying that if 6 PCs are accessing content over the samebroadband internet connection then this will be detrimental to the oral quality and reliability of any VOIP calls on the line.
If your phone works on a high frequency (above 2.4GHz) you might want to consider replacing it with one that operates on a lower frequency since higher ones can lead to interference.
Sometimes poor weather (for example heavy rain and gusts) can mean that static interferes with your VOIP phone service in a way that is unnoticeable during regular internet surfing. To resolve this problem, you should simply turn off and unplug any hardware, (router, ATA or phone) and re-plug in again, which will reset the static levels back to 0.
The location of your hardware is also important. If your ATA (analogue telephone adapter) is too close to your broadband router then this can hinder the voice quality of your internet fuelled phone calls. This is a result of electrical feedback and a greater distance between the two should help to prevent phone call drop outs and bad lines.
You should also consider the firewalls and codecs that your computer uses since these can interfere with VOIP services also.
